This policy explains how Hessity websites and apps use cookies and similar technologies. Personal data is also governed by the Privacy Policy. Use of Hessity is governed by the Terms of Use.
1. What this covers
A cookie is a small piece of data stored by the browser. We may also use similar technologies that do a comparable job: local storage on the browser or device, device identifiers, software development kits in the apps, and measurement or security tools provided by a third party.
This policy does not depend on naming specific tools in its substantive clauses. Tools may change. The categories below are what governs. Section 3 shows examples in use at the effective date.
2. Categories
| Category | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Essential for operation and security | Running the account, session, security, and delivery of the service, including push notifications if you enable them, and fault monitoring needed for stability. Without these, login or core functions may fail. |
| Preferences | Remembering display choices such as theme, sidebar collapse, or running inside a native wrapper, so they are not reset on every visit. |
| Measurement and analytics | Understanding how the site and app are used and improving stability and performance, including session measurement in production where it is enabled. |
Third-party targeted advertising is not a current category in the product at the date of this policy. We do not currently use cookies for third-party targeted behavioural advertising on the Hessity websites and apps this policy covers. If that category is added later, we will update this policy.
3. Examples at the effective date
These are operational examples, not a closed list. Tools inside a category may change, provided we update the information or the consent mechanism if the change is material to the type of data, the purpose, or the way processing is done.
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Essential for operation and security | Session and access-token storage on the device; the first-party cookie that marks the native app wrapper (`hessity_webview`); Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications when enabled (not an analytics tool); Sentry for fault monitoring and diagnosing problems. |
| Preferences | First-party cookies for theme (`hessity_theme`) and sidebar collapse (`hessity.sidebar.collapsed`). |
| Measurement and analytics | Microsoft Clarity for session measurement in production, including associating the session with the user after login where that applies; Vercel Analytics for usage measurement; Vercel Speed Insights for performance measurement. |
The tool provider may set its own cookies or identifiers. Its terms apply to the extent they concern its service. Processing may occur outside Egypt as described in the Privacy Policy.
4. Apps and similar technologies
Web apps, mobile apps, and the native wrapper may use local storage, a device identifier, and software kits for the same categories, not only browser cookies. Push notifications require an operating-system permission where that applies.
If measurement or analytics technologies are used in services a child uses (including the student app), they are the same production technologies, not a separate advertising tool, and they are not used to build targeted advertising aimed at the child. Children’s-data rules in the Privacy Policy and the law still apply. This policy does not mean parental consent to measurement was captured in the product when the account was created.
5. Your choices
Technologies essential for operation and security are used to run the service. Preferences are set when the user chooses them in the product (for example theme or sidebar collapse).
Measurement and analytics run in production as part of operating and improving the product. The product does not currently offer a separate consent panel for that category before it runs. You can restrict some technologies in browser or device settings; blocking the essential category may prevent login or break core functions. Push notifications are turned off in device settings.
Where the law requires consent before an optional category runs, that consent must be obtained before it runs. This policy is not a substitute for the consent mechanism the law requires. For privacy requests outside the product: legal@hessity.com, subject to identity checks as in the Privacy Policy.
6. Changes and law
We may update this policy from time to time. For material changes we notify by appropriate means, and we obtain new consent where the law requires it.
